Dinner to welcome new members. Teluk Gong

On the 14^th of October 2011, the members of SCSC club had a get-together dinner to welcome the new members of the club. The dinner took place at a restaurant named, Coconut Flower. The restaurant is located in Teluk Gong and is well-known for their seafood.

Before heading to the location, every committee member gathered at Sunway University College at 5.45pm to have a head count, ensuring that everyone is present. Once the head count is done, the members took off to the restaurant. Unfortunately, Ms Fong was not able to join due to her obligations of taking care of her child. The members reached at the restaurant at 7.00pm.

Daphne, the president of the club took initiative to take orders for food serve because as a respect to some international students, the food served must be halal. The menu consisted of vegetables, and various types of poultry as well as seafood. The food there was delicious. Once the food arrived, everyone had a good time filing their stomach. The dinner provided a platform for senior committee members and junior committee members to get to know each other. After eating, the seniors and juniors had a good time talking to each other.

All in all, the objective of the dinner, which is to make the members of SCSC club closer and more comfortable with one another. The objective achieved by creating as members are comfortable among all seniors and juniors. I hereby represent all of the new members of the club to thank all the seniors for putting in the effort to make the juniors feel welcomed in the club.

SCSC goes Broga.

It was pretty dark morning that the whole group agreed to reach at Sunway University College side gate at 3.45am. It may be new a little early for other some members to actualy force themselves to wake up at such morning just to get prepared for the disastrous Broga hill climb. The whole team of SCSC agreed to go for a climb at Broga Hill for the sake of sunrise. Everyone was there except Lydia and Thomas for some appropriate reason, therefore, they’re free to be absent. How fortunate that the young bloods of SCSC agreed to join the climb and they actually managed to wake up for the climb.

Ms Fong, the SCSC new club advisor was unable to join the climb with the team because she have to bring her 3 months old baby for vaccination. The joy couldn’t be any much fun because Ms Fong was not able to join for the trip but yet, our president , Ms Daphne Wong tried her best to make the whole trip a memorable. Upon waiting for everyone to reach at school, it was already 4.15 and everyone divided into 5 cars and the trip starts right everyone fitted into the car. During the process of driving to destination, the car was aligned for safety purposes and all cars remained at 100km/h as an appropriate speed in order to make sure every car is able to catch up and be safe during the trip.Ms Alexis, vice president, took the initative to guide the whole trip, and she was assigned to take the first car driven by Teng Thiam Woon in his Nissan X-Trail to lead the whole group. Signal lights, phone calls, hand signal was all used while driving to Broga Hill to make sure everyone is safe and keeping on track. Yong, escorted at the back of all other member's car to make sure all the car were save and not cutting the line between each other members car. The whole trip was hilarious. We all have ups and downs during the drive because the road were all dark and gloomy and also hazzy filled with morning bliss vapour.

Upon reaching beneath the hill of Broga, every members was “woahhhhh, so dark ah!” because during that time it was only 5.30am. Rooster have also not awakened yet that time. The plan for this trip is to be early for the sunrise or else it will all be a waste for a long drive but

could not make it for the sun rise. Therefore, everyone reached there early and gears up for the trip. Some of the members with jacket to avoid getting cold and bags loaded with water bottles to kill exhaustion. Daphne Wong, and Alexis will be leading towards the climb and Alex and Yong volunteered to escort the back to make sure no members were left behind and also to avoid any unwanted accident. This is because we prioritised the safety of the members first and to make the whole trip a great go and back.

The climb was really exhausting where we have to break several stops because some of the members could not catch up and have to lay down for a deep breath to catch up. As mentioned, no man leaves behind. Alex, Julian and Yong was there

cheering for other members to enhance their motivation to climb the hill because it was already half the hill and most of the members seems tired and on the process of giving up. We motivate each other giving verbal and physical support to make sure every members reach to the top and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the sunrise. Climbing the hill maybe one thing, but pothholes, slippery ground, trees roots are all obstacle that we have to overcome together. It was never a easy climb for first time members. It is certainly a great challenge for members and to show their teamwork in

helping each other to get to the hilltop. This climb was a success because of the objective achieved from this trip, which is teamwork and communications.Not much could say about the whole climb because it will be never easy to describe the whole trip. Therefore, pictures will be upload to do the talk and shows the adventurous trip. Flash lights were flashing all the way to capture good pictures and memories of the time spent with other members at the top of the hill.

After a while, every members decided to get down to the feet of the hill, and have a great group pictures and go for a morning breakfast. Some members decided to forward to damansara while others headed back to Sunway SS14 for great herbal pork ( Bah Kut Teh) . Chatters and laughters were all over the shop about the trip and everyone decided to go back for a good rest after the meal. The time spent was nonetheless than a grateful memories with other juniors. It was a great trip indeed.

FOOD FAIR

The Food Fair

The food fair was held during 19th August 2011 at Energy Hub. There were 6 cartons of J.Co Donuts which had a total of 72 donuts and they were sold for RM 3 each. Not only that, the booth also sells Gelato ice-cream which is new in market therefore it is based on consignment basis. The Gelato ice-cream is sold in varieties of fresh fruit flavours and each cost RM 4 for the delicious gelato. All these Gelato were hand made therefore, the taste of the ice-cream is fresh served.

The team arrived at 9.am to set up the booth for the food fair and we started to sell all delicacies at 10.am. Firstly, the sale wasn't as good as expected and not encouraging at all, because due to the less time spent of student in Energy Hub. Aside from that, students are also busy with friday morning gloomy class. Thomas and Yong collect the donut from J.Co Donut in Sunway Pyramid early to get ready for the booth later. The preparation of the booth take up sometime for the team to get ready. Upon meeting up with such circumstances where sales is not done at anytime, Thomas and Yong decided to take the initiative to bring the food to potential buyers instead of waiting for them to come over to visit our booth where it will take sometime to increase the sale.

Later, Thomas suggest that we should sell around the cafeteria by carrying a plate of donuts and ice cream around to make some good sales. While Thomas is doing the sale, Yong is providing free delivery and money collection from the poitential customer, because of the free delivery, our sales increased in no time. This is because students did not attracted much to the posters pasted around the school and lecture hall. As time goes by, the sales not only goes around student but also lecturer's office as well as the AUP Office and foyer. Ms Irene have been the most supportive due to the most sale is made from her. She bought a whole box of donuts. The ice cream sale was not attractive and eye catching, therefore, our team decided to purchase the ice cream themselves as a support to the club. The food fair ends at 3.30pm.

Dring the next meeting, most of the committee members agreed that the price of the Gelato ice cream is a quite pricey and Yong suggested the we should consider in implementing a new price for the ice cream in the future. Cheap price are the main attraction for the sale because our target buyers are mostly students. All committee members were committed and done a great job to make this event a success. Certainly with the help of President of SCSC club, Ms Daphne Wong to get authorisation for this event.

Lang Tengah

On 28^{th June} in the night at 10pm, about 40 students from Sunway University were gathered to depart to their long waiting dream trip of Lang Tengah Island. The objective of this trip was team building and understanding among all members and also outsiders who manage to join in this trip. Lots of games were planned for this trip such as volleyball, snorkeling, singing session, etc.

29^th June

We were having breakfast at 7.30am to boost our energy for our first activities later. The night trip was great, in fact we have to stop a number of stops to rest and continue our journey. Upon finishing our breakfast, we were told that the jungle tracking trip activities will begin at 8.30am. Everyone who joined in the trip were excited about the jungle trekking and couldn’t finish the last piece of their breakfast to get ready for the activities. The jungle trekking took them hours to explore and all of them were exhausted. Food and beverages was prepared during their jungle trekking and there goes their lunch.

In a meantime, some of the students who paid for a trip to Pulau Perhentian, were all left to join the trip by boat while others were waiting at jetty for their most excitement snorkeling activities at 2.30pm. Students were enjoying waiting under the sun and also helping each other to apply sunblock to prevent any unwanted dangerous UV light rays from sun. The whole snorkeling trip took them about one and half hours whereby some of the students demand for longer period of snorkeling. But time did not allow as other activaties were planned for the day as well. Tit bits such as cakes and fruit juice were offered during their break time to re-boost their energy for the second round which is the diving trip. Without much warned, all students geared up and “poof” there it goes, ended in the sea water and enjoying beautiful corals and fishes beneath their feet.

Not to mention about the briefing of using diving aqualung and all student’s safety were prioritized. Other students who don’t wish to join diving can play volley ball game on the beach which is also a team building activities. The whole activities have taken hours where it is time for them to have dinner. Joys and laughter were all over the dinner table to share their experience and comments of the afternoon activities. Later at night, instead of sleeping early, students were organized to have their free time throughout the whole night for them to enjoy and relax themselves. Students were hilarious about their free time and some even mentioned about singing in the karaoke room, and there are several students who brought their card games. Other then that, some students who prefer to enjoy the view at night and have their drinking and chatting session with their friends.

30^th June

Upon the beautiful morning, Students were having their breakfast at 7.30am and it is time for their luggage to be pack and check out. After that, students take a boat back to Merang jetty as their bus is waiting for them at 10am. The journey was about 10 hours, and students were all tired and exhausted. The bus arrived to Sunway University College at 10.30pm. This trip was conducted successfully and group pictures were taken right after they got down from the bus. The trip was wonderful and memorable. Great thanks to CPA Australia, without them, the trip would not have been possible and students would have much confident in participating.

Sushi Oishi!

The sushi sale was held on the 21^st of March 2011 at the Energy Hub. A total of 100 boxes of sushi were made and prepared, it comes with different varieties and the price ranging from RM 3.50 to RM 5.50.

The sushi and energy setup were prepared early in the morning at 8.00am and to be sold at 10.30am. There was a slight delay during the starting of the selling because the president of the club, Ummay was not satisfied with the design on the board; she wanted the board to look more appealing. Things were sorted out very quickly with the efficient teamwork abilities from all the members.

The sales were not good in the beginning because it was not lunch hour and students usually do not like to have cold or raw food in their empty stomach. Lunch hour was the busiest moment where almost half of the sushi was sold. After lunch hour, the sales starts to slow down again but Yong and Alex suggested to bring the sushi and start selling it at the foyer. At the same time, Thomas had already started selling sushi to students and lecturer around the cafeteria. About 30 minutes had passed, Julian and Lydia reach the hub and they went along with Yong and Alex around foyer and cafeteria. About 2.00pm, Ummay arrived at the hub to help out and she suggested selling the sushi to lecturers in their office and also the AUP office. The lecturers were very helpful and bought all the sushi. Most of the credits went to Ms. Irene when she bought more than 10 boxes and spent more than RM 40. We finished selling the sushi about 3.00pm.

During the next meeting, most of the committee agreed with the prices of sushi being very expensive, especially for the extra charges for soy sauce and wasabi. Yong also suggested having flyers next time to increase awareness. All committee members done a great job and everyone were working very well together to get things done.

CPA Australia Career Expo 2011

CPA Australia had organized a career expedition on 19 February 2011 at Hall 1, Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Mid Valley City. Committees from Sunway's charter and Taylor's charter were helped out for this event.

The day before the expedition, the charters went to prepare the goodie bags and also to decorate the hall as we were asked to. We were separated into groups and were assigned with different tasks to reduce the time spent to finish the preparation for the following day’s exposition. Although we were from different charters and most of us did not know each other very well, things worked out fine as we teamed up. We helped each other to pack the goodies bag, distribute the correct numbers of booklet and flyers to the goodies bag and much more.

On 19th February, we arrived early for the final preparation before the start of the exposition. As the event started, the committees were duly fit for duty. Some were distributing fliers, some were assigned as security guards and much more.

Overall, the exposition was exciting and meaningful. All committee members are sincerely grateful to the bottom of our hearts as we were given this opportunity to help CPA Australia to make this event a success and allowed the members to gain experience in holding such an event.

"The expo was fun! I’ve met some new friends from other charter and learnt that teamwork is important. It was a new experience and also a great opportunity to meet so many different potential future employers. I’m glad that I’ve attended this event. If there is another chance in the future, I will definitely be there again." said Zhi Ruo

Connie shared: "it was a totally new and unforgettable experience to get involved in such professional event as a student ambassador!!! Besides, it was fun in dealing with so many difference kinds of people in one day."

Varsha added: "the Career Expo 2011 was a great experience. Meeting new people, making new friends. This helped me to open up more to strangers."

"I've never experienced such particular event as I'm really looking forward for it again!" says Shermin.

Lastly, Ummay stated: “I was really honoured to promote CPA, as per my assignment, at the CPA mother booth, let alone the fact that I grabbed this opportunity to network with the other student charter. All in all, it was definitely another unforgettable and enriching experience for me”

Petits Delices

This food sale was held on the 20th of September 2010 at the Energy Hub. Delicious homemade cupcakes, original and flavored J.CO donuts have been prepared for the sale. Drinks made with the combination of Sprite and SunQuick, hence the creation of Sunny Spriteup. These were the products sold at SCSC’s Petite Delices.

Early morning 8a.m, SCSC members gathered together to prepare for the event. Setting up the tables and boards were done while all the members prepare themselves before the sale starts. All committee members agreed to allocate a few members to walk around the cafeteria promoting the products that were sold. With such enthusiasm, not only all the products were sold but smiles of appreciation and satisfaction were seen by the customers. As the J.CO donuts arrived at 10.30am, customers also grew large in number.

Many thanks to Sunway lecturers and students for their support as the food sale ended at 2.00pm. It was not anticipated that the food sale would end that early. Therefore, all committee members are sincerely grateful to the bottom of our hearts as this event was a success and allowed members to gain experience in holding such an event.

Freshie Night

On 20^th August 2010, SCSC club had its very first “Freshie Night” dinner. The objective of the dinner was to welcome new committees. The dinner was held at a seafood restaurant located in Carrey Island name “Kang Guan”.

As we reached the restaurant, it was 7:00pm and almost time for buka puasa. The meal had been pre-ordered in advance upon our arrival to ensure that the meals were ready when it was time to buka puasa.

The menu on the night included vegetables, crab, fish, chicken and tofu. Everyone was satisfied with the meals as it filled our stomach rapidly. Apart from the delicious food, the main goal of the “Freshie Night” was for all SCSC members to get aquatinted with one another.

I hereby represent all the new members to thank all the senior committee members for their efforts in preparing this “Freshie Night” and for creating such a memorable night for all the new members. We really appreciate it.

Industrial Visit to KLCC - 21st August 2010

On 21^st August 2010, 43 students from Sunway University College paid an industrial visit to KLCC Aquaria. The group gathered at the foyer and departed at 10:30a.m and it took us an hour to get there. Having reached upon KLCC Aquaria we took a group photo and started our anxious excitement tour around aquaria. Thanks to Sunway University College we were able to cut the cost of the ticket from Rm38 to Rm25.

In aquaria, we divided among ourselves into sub-groups and there was fish feeding session of giant blotched fantail ray, green turtle and other different kind of fish. Other than that, there were other kind of animals such as the moon jelly, water rats, bumblebee dart frog, sand tiger shark, Madagascar hissing cockroach and even some animals took the day off.

After visiting KLCC Aquaria, we headed to the food court and had our meal. In addition, some of us even went for a walk at the park located outside the convention center and took photos of KLCC. As the clock tick 2:30p.m, we departed KLCC Aquaria and headed back to Sunway University College. The trip was joyful and exciting.

All in all, the trip was a great joy to all who went. Special thanks to SSD of Sunway University College as without their sponsorship the trip would not have been possible.

SCSC Team Building Redang 2010

For 3 days and 3 nights, 22 students from Sunway University College were away from home. Destination: Redang Island, Terengganu. The objective of the trip was for Team Building. While there, games such as volley ball and soccer were played and snorkeling trips were ventured.

It took us 9 hours on the bus to get to the port and a further 1 hour on the ferry to reach the island itself. But it was well worth it. Although we were tired from the journey, the moment we got there we couldn’t wait to jump into the water. Most of the time spent there was spent on the beach, and all 22 of us returned with a healthy tan.

Redang Island has always been known for its clear water and diverse marine life which are just waiting for tourists to visit. Even though there were reports of “coral bleaching” prior to the trip, the underwater views were still spectacular. The views ranged from the sighting of the 7 foot long fish which we were unable to identify, to even clown fish (more commonly known as “Nemo”).

Our home away from home was Redang Lagoon Chalet. The accommodation, even though not as we expected, covered the basic needs. After all, we did not go there to sit in the room the whole day. The rooms were just to bathe and sleep in. The meals provided were the usual basic chicken and fish dishes. We even got a BBQ meal on our first night there.

All in all, the trip was a great joy to all who went. Great thanks to CPA Australia, without whom the trip would not have been possible

Sunway Meets Swinburne (Sarawak)

From the 5th of July to the 7th, a group of 39 students from Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus CPA Australia Student Charter (SSCASC) paid a visit to KL. During these 3 days, the students were brought on company visits around Kuala Lumpur to many different potential future employers.

On the 2nd day, CPA organized a networking session between these members of SSCASC with the committee members of students from local colleges. Sunway University College CPA Student Charter (SCSC) was glad to have been invited and given the privilege of participating in this activity. It was an opportunity to get to know our fellow students from other student charters across the South China Sea. Also a part of the gathering ware representatives from Taylors University College and Multimedia University Cyberjaya.

During the gathering, the president of SSCASC, Edina, gave a presentation about the activities of the club. SSCASC is one of the largest student charters in Malaysia consisting of over 200 students as members. They are also one of the most active student charters.
Over lunch, the students present mingled amongst one another and exchanged contacts.
It was a great opportunity and one that will surely result in future collaborations amongst the 4 institutions present.

We would like to thank CPA Australia for organizing this activity and for inviting SCSC to be a part of it. We look forward to the next network gathering and to working together with other student charters. After all, we are a networking club.

SCSC Get-Together Night 2010

The SCSC Get Together Night was held on the 30th of April at the Students Services Department from 5.30 pm to 8.30pm. Approximately 30 participants turned up, the majority of them being CPA passport members. The event started at six, with a welcoming note and the introduction of the committees. It then proceeded with brief opening speeches by Ms Irene Teoh and the CPA representative, Ms. Kuan Leong.

Khor Jia Na, being the ex-president and Dr. Foo Yin Fah, founder of SCSC were the remarkable guests hosting the sharing session. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to ask questions that were promptly replied by the formers.

Ms Suhana was then called upon to present tokens of appreciation to our distinguished persons.

After the sharing session, participants were divided into groups of ten based on their registration number. The first game conducted was Pictionary, whereby each group’s representative had to draw an item that had to be guessed by members from their group, otherwise the points were to be attributed to their counterpart groups.

The second game was an eco-friendly one. Groups were given cans, newspapers, balloons, bottles and strings to come up with anything related to the theme ‘Fashion’ within 6 minutes!

Eventually, the representatives cat walked to display their group’s deed, that was judged by Jia Na. Indubitably, the most creative group went away with prizes, not to mention that a lucky draw was subsequently conducted.

Finally, free food and refreshments were served to all the participants. No wonder, networking had room for itself as each and every one went off with at least one more friend...

KPMG Visit September 2009

Organised on Friday the 18th September, the KPMG visit was warmly appreciated by all of us. We departed from the Sunway University College's foyer at 13:30 and had a smooth drive to the company site where we were sweetly welcomed by Nancy, our hostess.

After temperature checks, we proceeded to one of the biggest and most distinguished meeting rooms. The table was neatly set for us, with pens, brochures and papers to jot down notes.

We build careers at KPMG..Indeed they do! Their staffs are living proofs...

To be noted, there Mr Siew made us at ease, we felt free to ask him any question which he answered in a detailed manner, providing us with as much clarifications as possible.

After that, we had a tea break. We adjourned to a cosy area to have refeshments and pastries. Here again, we had the opportunity to have little chats with some other staffs.

Food Sales Fund Raising

The club held a food sales for two days, namely, on the 24th and 25th of August in the cafetaria. We had decided to sell egg sandwiches, hotdogs and cupcakes as well as mineral water and cokes, as part of our combo set.

No wonder due preparations were required beforehand. We had meetings almost every week to decide upon the event. We all pooled our ideas together to come up with a satisfactory plan. Of course, we kept on brushing up the initial draft and made occasional amendments, in pursuit of an excellent plan for the food sales.

Next, each one of us was delegated our tasks. Being the organiser, I should highlight that some of us contributed beautifully in setting up the event. It was so fun. We had to check the prices at the grocery store, make a budget, waking up early to get prepare the food and set up the booth, amongst others.

Indubitably, it was an enriching experience for all of us. It empowered us with lots of organising skills such as doing the budget is a good application of our accounting knowledge! Besides, setting an attracting booth, displaying the food neatly, as well as serve the customers politely were marketing strategies that had to be applied in an attempt to lure customers. As had put it Ms Greeja upon supporting our sales, " You learn" while doing this event.

Recruitment Drive

The 2009 Recruitment Drive was held in the Student Services Department for two days, namely on the 21st and 22nd of July. In hindsight, the number of CPA passport applicants was satisfactory and the corresponding figure for committee member candidates turned out to be 15. The latter shall be called for interviews and once their eligibility evaluated, the lucky ones shall be warmly welcomed aboard the SCSC club.

To be noted, some students, especially newcomers, were enthusiastically interested in joining the club. They inquired about the activities conducted as well as the background of CPA itself. Here, it should be highlighted that our committees did excellently in providing the necessary detailed information to the visitors dropping by our booth. Brochures and pamphlets were offered to enhance understanding of the CPA Australia's program and its related benefits as a postgraduate qualification. Furthermore, CPA pens and paper clips were offered as promotional tokens.

All in all, we hope to swell the number of applicants for both CPA passport numbers and the SCSC committee members in the coming months and years, principally through buttressed promotional efforts.

This event was organised by Sunway University College and CPA Australia and its purpose was to discuss about the impact of global economic crisis to accounting and financial service sector. It was held in Sunway University College’s Multi Purpose Hall on 16th May 2009, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. At 9:15 a.m. the forum was started by Dr. Foo, Head of School of Business & Law in Sunway. After that, the first speaker, Mr Chan talked about the impact on changes in investment portfolio by today’s economic world. A lot of charts and grafts were shown to clarify his point of views. He also explained some areas to do investment and risk management models to be used by the banks.

Then, Mr. Andrew Heng identified how global crisis affects in Accounting Profession and he believes the crisis would end in 2010 in Malaysia according to some analyses. Moreover, Mr. Andrew also carried out his opinions to some accounting issues such as the conflict between Fair Value Methods vs Historical Cost Method and Impairment of Assets for current economic status.

Dr. Afrah’s views were more emphasize on human governance rather than corporate governance. She is more concern about ‘Question the fundamental’ and the importance of Accountant’s behaviour that related to society’s welfare.

Students asked questions during Q & A sections and different types of questions were responded by the three speakers.

Fund Raising Event 2009

This event was held during Sunway Sport Carnival in April.
SCSC was selling isotonic drinks (100 plus) and mineral water
to the players, audiences and staffs.
Sales on first day was very good during futsal games and we were almost out of stock there.
However, sales for the following days were not as good because of bad weather and competitors.
As a result, this event was not very successful as the profit margin was lower than expectation.
SCSC will have another fund raising event in future.

The Sunway – CPA Australia – KPMG Undergraduate Business Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) was successfully held on 6 September 2008 (Saturday) at Sunway University College’s Multi Purpose Hall. The conference was attended by approximately 400 participants from different universities and colleges. The aim of this conference was to create greater awareness and appreciation on social and environmental responsibilities among undergraduates. A RM10 registration fee was collected and all proceeds went to charity.

The event started at 9.30am with a welcome message by the President of Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter, Ms. Khor Jia Na. This was followed by a speech from Ms. Elizabeth Lee, the Executive Director of Sunway University College. Ms. Khor and Ms. Lee then officially opened the undergraduate business conference. A performance by the Theatre and Film Club from Sunway University College completed the opening ceremony.

After that, a choral speaking performance was performed by the SMK Bandar Sunway. Dr. Foo then presented the RM10 registration fees collected to the Pengetua Besar of SMK Bandar Sunway and the student’s teacher. There are some booths from World Wide Fund for Nature, Malaysian Nature Society, Environmental Protection Society of Malaysia, Body Shop and SMK Bandar Sunway Special School set up at the back of MPH. Students visited these booths during break times to find out more those organisation’s CSR activities.

The first session of the conference, “Does a corporation have morals? A case for corporate social responsibilities”, was presented by Dr Foo Yin Fah. Refreshment was served in the cafeteria after this session.

The next session, “The story of Body Shop: Business as unusual”, was facilitated by Datin Mina-Cheah Foong CEO of Body Shop Malaysia. There was a short video clip presented by the company at the start of the speech. Participants were highly intrigued and asked Datin Mina many questions throughout the Q&A session.

This was followed by Mr. Bernard to share on Sunway Group’s CSR initiatives. After that was HSBC CSR initiatives by Ms. Elizabeth Wee, Head of Group Communications and Corporate Sustainability at HSBC Malaysia. Once again there was a good response from participants during the Q&A session. Next, “Aligning CR with Business Goals” was presented by Ms. Sumitra Nair, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Digi Malaysia. The following session was on KPMG CSR initiatives presented by Mr. Johari, partner at KPMG. Lunch was then served at the cafeteria. A donation box was placed in the MPH for everyone to make further donations.

The afternoon session began with a fantastic performance by The Stompers. The group created loud rhythmic tunes using household items such as pails, bottles, and a ladder. The Stompers got the crowd highly hyped up by making them participate in making tunes with them by clapping and stomping their feet. Everyone enjoyed the fun performance.

The presentation after The Stompers’ performance was by Ms. Audrey Danasamy, Director of CPA Australia - Malaysia Division, about the CPA Australia CSR initiatives. This was followed by a forum moderated by Dr. Foo regarding “Environmental Conservation. Can corporations do more?” with representatives from WWF – World Wide Funds for Nature, Malaysian Nature Society and Environmental Protection Society of Malaysia. Many students asked the speakers challenging and thought-provoking questions during the Q&A segment. The conference ended at 4.30pm with a closing address by Ms. Christina Foo, the President of CPA Australia – Malaysia Division.

Benefits:

This conference has shown adequate information in what is happening in the real world. It showed ministries of different business field and their roles in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The participants have gained more knowledge on CSR through this conference. It gives insight on large corporations’ responsibility in the real world and what kinds of CSR being practiced by the corporations. This conference helped in creating the awareness among the students about how important the CSR in the business field, that business is not just making profit but the society and environment should be concerned as well. Besides, students were able to learn on Malaysian’s perspective of CSR practice in the business field.

Furthermore, this conference has helped students gaining deeper understandings on CSR which can be applied on their project papers and studies. These can also be practiced on their future careers in order to benefit the organizations in terms of marketing and towards the community and environment as well.

Students have gained more information and background regarding the organizations involved. This is definitely helping the students to be familiar with the product and services provided by the organizations. In addition, students were able to meet up new friends not only from different programs, but from different universities as well.

Network gathering event

Network gathering event is organized to establish relationship between the CPA club members all around the universities. It is held in the CPA office located in The Garden (south tower). The event started at 4.30 o’clock and end at 7.30 o’clock.

First of all, the members from all the universities introduce to each others. Then, there is confectionary session where those members could continue their conversation with those members from other universities while eating. This could help them to further up their relationship.

Secondly, there come the games session where three games are introduced. The first game is an ice-breaking game where people will sit in one round but there is short of one chair. So the people who without the chair will need to stand in the middle of the circle and state what do the person like. For example, the person say he/she like to wear black shirt, then those who wear black shirt need to stand up and run to find another seat. The person who cannot manage to take his/her seat, he/she needs to stand on the middle of the circle and introduce himself/herself and continue the game by saying what he/she like. The second game is by passing balloon using armpit and then use a spoon to find candies which hidden in the flour. The group that manages to find the most candies will become the winner. Those people are divided into 3 groups. The third game is called 50-20 cents game. The girls will become 20 cents while the guys will become 50 cents. It is required to form group by themselves which add up will become 1 dollar and 80 cents. Then, those groups are required to use people to create a bridge based on their own creativity. Anyone who could not find their own group or could not build a bridge will be having punishment. There were 3 people had been punish for not having their own group and the punishment is by hitting each other butt.

Lastly, this event has ended successfully.

The KPMG visit was held successfully on August 8 2008 from 2 to 5 pm at Menara KPMG. It was organised by Sunway Student Services Department (SSD) and Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter (SCSC). There were a total of 46 participants that comprised of 43 Victoria University (VU) students, 2 course coordinators and 1 School of Computer and Technology (SCT) student. The course coordinators present were VU lecturer Mr. Teoh and a SSD staff. All participants gathered at the Sunway foyer at 1.30 p.m. except 6 of them who drove by themselves.
Despite the bus driver getting lost midway, the group arrived KPMG at 2 pm. The group was lead to a meeting room on the 10th floor after gathering at the concourse area. Mr. Ivo from Human Resource divided the groups into groups of 6 and they were asked to list down any queries regarding KPMG.
Popular questions asked by the students included: “What is the requirement to work/get the internship in KPMG?” and “How much is the salary paid for the fresh employee/internship?” Other questions were mainly about the criteria to work abroad, employee’s welfare, working duration and also the details of each department in KPMG (Audit, Tax, and Advisory).
The partner of KPMG’s advisory department answered the student’s questions and proceeded to present a short slide show on working at KPMG. It provided clearer answers to the student’s questions. The topic of the presentation was about “How to develop individual’s career in KPMG.” A refreshment break was provided at 4 pm outside the meeting room and students were given the opportunity to interact freely with KPMG managers from different departments.
Ms. Lim Synn Li and Mr. Ivo provided a tour around the KMPG office after the refreshments. The group departed KPMG at 5pm after taking from group shots.
Questionnaire Report:
Majority of the participants thought highly of the KPMG visit. They had a clearly idea on an accountant’s working life, current job opportunities, developments and innovations in the accounting industry after being exposed to one of the Big 4 accounting firms. They noticed that KPMG cares about their worker’s welfare as well as their work performance as the staff participates in many non-work related activities.

Taman Negara Trip Report

The Taman Negara Trip (25-27 July 2008) was organized by Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter (SCSC) and partly sponsored by CPA Australia. It was a 3 days 2 nights trip for 40 students and 1 CPA officer at one of the oldest rainforests in the world. Taman Negara was declared for conservation in 1938 and has become Malaysia's premier national park and the largest in the country covering over 4343 square kilometres (434,300 hectares) of primary forest, spans across three states: Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang. Taman Negara is the most extensive protected area of pristine, lowland, evergreen rainforest in the country.

Day 1

SPKG Tours Sdn Bhd has arranged the transport from Sun-U to Kuala Tahan Jetty. The journey has started at 9am and ended arriving at the jetty around 4.30pm with a lunch break before that. It took approximately 30 minutes for the whole group to reach Nusa Holiday Village by its boat service.

After everyone has settled down their luggage at hostel dormitory, an ice-breaking session took place for one and a half hour before dinner break at 8pm. There was an hour of Night Jungle Walk later after dinner. It was an experience to walk in the jungle at night to see the tropical forest night life. The tour guide has shown some unusual species of insects, flora and fauna. The most interesting part was the opportunity to see the glowing fungus and insects having luminescent chemicals which produce weak light. Unfortunately, the jungle walk ended with almost half of the group bitten by leeches.

Day 2

The first activity after breakfast was an three hours of jungle trekking through steep hill up to the top of Bukit Warisan, which is an ideal place for bird watching and a beautiful viewpoint as well. It was certainly the most exhausted activity in this trip, with people sliding down at steep area, with people pulling everything their hands can reach at in order to climb up a big step, and of course with people getting bitten by leeches again. However, it offered an opportunity to experience the extraordinary beauty of nature at its best especially the scenery at the top of the hill.

After the lunch time back at the village, the group was preceded by boat to experience the Canopy Walkway. It is a hanging bridge on the top layer of vegetation in the forest, with the height of 40m and 400m long with 9 platforms, which enables people to view the rich and diverse flora and fauna at the very summit of the forest. It is also recognized as the world’s longest hanging bridge.

Another exhilarating experience was the rapid shooting on boats. The boats traveled further up the Tembeling River from the village, and shot the seven sets of rapids. It was an exciting ride to experience the adrenalin rush of river water. As expected, a water war has started and everyone was trying to splash water to another, ended being wet from head to toe thorough soaking of river water.

The next activity was to visit the Orang Asli Settlement with wet clothes still on bodies. Orang Asli means the Original People in Malay language, lived in traveling lifestyle in Taman Negara and call themselves as Batek. Their settlements are often along some forest trails or rivers. In this visit, the group was educated with their unique lifestyle. Blowpipe weapon was demonstrated and tried by some of them.

Day 3

After breakfast, the group departed by boat to Kuala Tahan Jetty at 10am. There was a change in plan on the way back to Sun-U. A post-graduate from Victoria University has invited everyone to visit his dragon fruits plantation. He explained in details the cultivation of dragon fruits and insisted to give away some dragon fruits. He has also bought some durians, rambutans and mangosteen as a treat. The whole trip has finally ended when the bus arrived Sun-U at around 6pm.

On Friday, the 9^th of May 2008 Sunway CPA Student Charter held a farewell barbeque party at Lagoon View Condominium for all committee members that are in their final year or semester. The party was in conjunction with SCSC’s teacher advisor’s surprise farewell. Majority of the SCSC committee members were present and each contributed in making the party a huge success. Kudos to Ivan’s friends that acted as DJs for the night. They played a couple of Chinese, R n B and Jazz hits up until 1030pm. Preparation of heating the barbeque coal pit began at 6pm. There were some initial difficulties in getting the fire to start due to lack of experience and the absence of a fire starter. However, after a good hour of burning tones of newspapers and rapid fanning, we got the fire started. At 7 pm, which was the official starting time, most of the guests began flooding in with Dr. Foo appeared shortly afterwards and the barbequing of hickory-smoked chicken wings and drumsticks began.

We started off with Samantha’s delicious macaroni and cheese, Diana’s cucumber and egg sandwiches and various crisps purchased by Elaine, Diana, Jiana, Aifei and Derrick while waiting for the chicken. The highlight of the evening was watching Evana, Dr. Foo and Jiana perform the ‘chicken dance’ and Yvonne and Sharon’s stingray that was shipped all the way from Kota Kinabalu. Dr. Foo left after the committee sang him a ‘Happy Farewell’ song and obligatory photo taking sessions.

Majority of the SCSC crew stayed on partying and cleaning until 11.45 pm. By the end of the night, most of us were soaked wet thanks to being thrown into the condominium swimming pool but everyone had a great time getting stuffed on chicken meatballs, sausages, crisps, marshmallows, chicken wings and drumsticks, stingray, pasta, cake, jelly, vodka and sandwiches.

PWC Visit

The PwC Visit was successfully held on 25^thApril 2008 (Friday) at PwC, Kuala Lumpur. It was organized by Sunway Student Service Department (SSD) and co-organized by Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter (SCSC). There were 19 participants in total and of these figures, 13 participants came from Victoria University (VU), 4 from SCT, and 2 were course coordinators: VU lecturer Puan Suhana and Ms. Elisa from SSD. The bus was 30 minutes late and the group left for PwC, Kuala Lumpur at 2pm.

At 3pm, the group arrived at PwC and was welcomed by Mr. Rueben at the ground floor. The group was lead to the meeting room on the 15^th floor. Ms. Jennifer conducted the first round presentation on PwC. After that, the Senior Executive Director conducted a presentation on the social activities and System and Processing Assurance (SPA) of PwC. Then, a refreshment break session was provided and participants were able to converse with the PwC staffs, Ms. Jennifer and Mr. Rueben.

After the refreshment session, the Senior Manager conducted the second round of presentations. He explained the relationship between IT and Accounting. Participants were participating actively during the Q&A session.

At 4.30pm, the group was lead by Ms. Jennifer and Mr. Rueben for a short tour around the PwC office. The group left at 5pm and reached Sunway University College at 6pm. The evaluation questionnaires distributed to 13 participants from VU were returned upon arrival at Sunway University College.

Questionnaire Report:

Most of the participants strongly agreed that the trip was educational and well organized. They gained increased awareness on current job opportunities, developments and innovations in the accounting industry from the exposure to one of the Big 4 accounting firms. Participants became aware of the knowledge required in fresh graduates, which were not merely strong academic results but strong soft skills as well. They felt that the staffs were friendly and helpful and the speakers delivered their presentations well.

However, most of the participants disagreed that the transport coach was punctual as he was 30 minutes late for the departure to PwC, Kuala Lumpur.

Berly's Chocolate & Confectionary Sdn Bhd Trip

Beryl’s chocolate company trip was held on Friday, 18^th April 2008. This visit was organized by SCSC together with Sunway Student Department. This trip was one of the trips that is organized by SCSC and doesn’t have anything to do with accounting. There were one SSD staff and 40 participants that come from not only accounting or banking finance major but also from other specialization.

All the participants were encouraged to gather at the main foyer of Sunway University College at 12.30 pm. The participants start gathering and the committee member of the SCSC took the attendance to make sure all the participants were not late. Unfortunately one of the participants could not make it because of medical problem. After all the participants had been taken their attendance, the bus arrived at 1.20 pm and the refundable of RM 10 was given inside the bus. The group arrived at the company at 2.00 pm. All the participants were asked to assemble in a hall then the Beryl’s staff gave a brief presentation on how the chocolate are being produced. The slide was included the processes starts from the coco plants until it turn into a chocolate. After the presentation, the group was taken to go around the factory to directly see the production activities. The trip was closed with the participants were given the opportunity to test the products and shopping.

The group left for Sunway University College at 3.00 pm and arrived at 3.35 pm. Both evaluation questioner from SCSC and SSD were given when they were inside the bus.

Overall, the trip was fun & exciting. The participants was both enjoyed and learned about chocolate at the same time. From the evaluation, it looks like most of participants complained about the trip duration which was quite short and the information given from the staff was not clear and too short. As a conclusion, this trip was a success and most of students still asking for this kind of trip for next time.

‘I was very exciting for this trip because it is unusual and unique. Go for this kind of trips giving me additional knowledge about food industry. Although, the trip was quite short and the information given by the staff so little but I have fun and my suggestion to SCSC is to organize this kind of trip again either Malaysia or international company.’

Get-Together Night

SCSC Get Together Event was held on Tuesday, 15^th April 2008 in Sunway University College – Student Service Department (SSD) from 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm. There was approximately 50 participants from VU had attended the event. The aim of this event is to launch the SCSC Official Blog and also for the SCSC members and non-members get together.

The event started at 4.30 pm with the launching of the SCSC Official Blog. It was then followed by the talk from Mr. Gerald Fernandez, CPA staff. At the end of the talk, there was a Q & A session for the participants.

After the talk, there was a game session. In this session, there was all together five games. The aim of these games was to enable the participants to get together and know each other. The first game was Public Canning. In this game, all the participant are given 15 minutes to memorize other participant's name. After that, one person in the circle needs to hold the cane and hit those who can't remember other participant's name.

The second game was Small House. In this game, everyone have to form a circle there was a small square line. The MC – Diana need to bring up a theme such as who had fail a subject, who is wearing spectacles, who is in a relationship and other. The participant who is for example wearing spectacles need to run to the square. If they fail to do that, than there was punishment.

The punishment was done by Dr. Foo and the participant.

It was then continued to the 4^th game. This time, each group was given colourful balloons to be blown. They were being told to tie it on their leg. Trying to damage opponent’s balloon as well as protecting their king was the aim of this game. As a result, all the people had the exciting feeling and felt so enthusiasm in this game.

Passing Down Charade was the 4^th game. The cooperation within one group was needed in this game. After the first person was told the phrase, they would have to act it out silently within their group. The last person would then have to guess what the act was

The final game after the dinner is Treasure Hunt. The audience would have to take a photo with the CPA poster, which was pasted around the campus with different poses. The game facilitator, Noelle, Jun Yin, Karmen, Wen Hui and Ivan helped the participants by giving hints. The event then ended at 8.30 pm with the prize giving ceremony.

Finally, for the last game which was Photo Session, participants had to take a picture with the CPA poster which was sticked around the campus with different pose. The game facilitator, Noelle, Jun Yin, Karmen, Wen Hui, Ivan helped the participants by giving a hint.

2008 Fund Raising

The SCSC Fund-raising was held on 24^th March 2008 and 25^th March 2008 from 10am to 4pm in the Sunway University College cafeteria. The aim is to raise fund for our SCSC Club by selling J Co. donuts and drinks (Ribena mix up with Sprite).

Before the event started, some of the SCSC members have decorated and setting up the booth. Diana and Derrick are assigned to collect J.Co donuts in Sunway Pyramid Ground Floor. We started selling at about 10am. We allocated three members on duty in one slot, which is one hour. Some of the cooperative members offered their assist during their free time although that was not their duty slot. Almost all of the members did perform their job well. While selling the donuts and drinks, we also provide our business cards to the customers. In the business cards, we printed out our blog address. The purpose of this is to create awareness amongst students that we have a blog containing the information and activities of our club.

We sold more donuts on the first day and reduced our volume in donuts on the second day. We believe that the demand for donuts will decrease on the second day as the customer’s satisfaction decreases. For the first day, the sales were not really promising. Therefore, we come out with a solution to sell the donuts in a dozen or half a dozen for a lesser price. Regardless of that, our sales were profitable. We managed to sell all the donuts even though we could not sell all our drinks. As a result, we decided to give away free drinks to the customers who bought the donuts as times are not permitting us to sell it. The same thing happened for the second day. However, we managed to sell off all the donuts at 3pm as there were varieties of donuts choices.

Recruitment Drive

The C&S Recruitment Drive was successfully held on 11 March 2008 to 13 March 2008 at Student Concourse, Sunway University College. This event was in collaboration with Student Services Department (SSD). The aim for this event is to promote CPA Australia and Sunway CPA Student Charter (SCSC), as well as recruit new members. The committee have used the life cycle of butterflies themed and the CPA Australia’s logo as the background.

During the event, there are many students who dropped by the booth to find out more about the CPA Passport and SCSC, as well as registered as a CPA Passport member. Those students who sign-up as members during the event have been given goodies which are sponsored by CPA Australia.

In addition, SCSC has recruited the committee members during the event. When students signing-up as a member, the person on-duty also asked them whether they interested to join as a committee. Students who are interested to be a committee were requested to provide their contact details.

Eventually, we have recruited 77 new members during the recruitment drive, which majority from Victoria University (VU) students.

Talk with President of CPA Australia - Malaysia Division

The CPA Talk was successfully held on 18^th October 2007 (Thursday) at Lecture Theatre 1, Sunway University College. The conference recorded an attendance of approximately 35 participants include members and non members participants which are mainly from Victoria University, Sunway University College. The aim of this talk was to provide students with the knowledge needed to prepare for a career in the field of accounting.

Before the event started, SCSC club was prepared the equipments that needed in Lecture Theatre 1. The equipments are PowerPoint slides, tables and sofa for interview sections and also token appreciation that will give to Christina Foo at the end of the event. As well as in registration part, the committee members must make sure whether the participants attend the event. As the time goes by, both committee members and all participants are waiting for the Christina Foo arrival.

The event started at 3.20pm with a welcome message from the Host, Diana. The event started with describes Christina Foo background, continued by her experience after she graduated, work in Coca Cola Company, Atlanta and also work in London. Most importantly, she also provided tips on how to work in accounting field for real life.

Christina Foo also shares with us about her working life. An accountant especially woman, must be confidence; discipline also must have good communication skills, although some perceptions may appears that woman is very arrogant.

Different workplace will face different personality of people and also the accounting method. As her advice to the participants, “Be good friends to others; do not say anything that would do anything to you. One day, it can come back to you”. The talk was closed by Mr Foo and ended at 4.30pm. Evana, President of SCSC, represent all of the members to receive the CPA’s certificate. The club members also give some token appreciation to Christina Foo which represent by Ms. Lim Tiew Ming.

At the end of the event, the refreshment also provided for all the participants. The refreshment, provided by Sunway University College Cafeteria was sponsored by SCSC club. All the participant was enjoyed the food. Besides, participants can also have a conversation with Christina Foo during the refreshment. The event was ended at 5.00pm.

Audience's Response

This was the first time she has attended this event. Yen Sin found the event is very helpful in the future accounting fields by sharing of working experiences. The most important part is Christina Foo also gives some tips to us for our future prospects. Yen Sin hoped to see more events like this in concerning the real life experiences of accountants. This would be useful for students to understand the reality of the accounting profession rather than listening rumours and myths.

5th CPA Passport Undergraduate Business Conference

The CPA Passport 5^th Undergraduate Business Conference – Kick Start Your Career, was successfully held on 22 September 2007 (Saturday) at Sunway University College. The conference recorded an attendance of approximately 200 participants from different universities and colleges. The aim of this conference was to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for a career in the field of accounting.

The event started at 9.00am with a welcome message by the Deputy President of CPA Australia Malaysia Division, En. Rusman Amir Zaihan. This was followed by a speech from Ms. Elizabeth Lee, the Executive Director of Sunway University College. En. Rusman and Ms. Lee then officially opened the undergraduate business conference. A dance performance by a group from Sunway University College completed the opening ceremony.

The first session of the conference, “Communicate with Power and Confidence”, was presented by Mr. Daniel Liew. He shared the ten commandments of communicating with power and confidence. He also provided examples of how a person should communicate effectively. Mr. Liew’s humour and confidence inspired the audience. Morning tea was served in the cafeteria after this session.

The next session, “Professional Grooming for Success”, was facilitated by Ms. Sheila Wong. She provided the participants with tips on how they should package their image with good grooming sense. Ms. Wong also taught the participants how to present a professional image with demonstrations by a few volunteers from the audience.

This was followed by a panel discussion on “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of the Accounting Profession”. The panel comprised Mr. Raymond Cheong, En. Mustafa Haji Abdul Razak and Mr. Terence Tan Chee Sze. The panel members shared their experiences of working in the accounting profession with the audience. Lunch was then served at the cafeteria.

The performance included participation by members of the audience including the advisor of the Sunway CPA Student Charter, Mr. Foo Yin Fah. Everyone enjoyed the fun performance.

The final presentation after The Stompers’ performance was by Ms. Samiaa Retra Pillai from JobStreet.com. Ms. Pillai provided an overview of JobStreet.com and the current job market. Most importantly, she also provided tips on attending interviews and resume writing. This session included a video presentation of what should and should not be done during an interview. The conference ended at 4.00pm.

Educational Visit to KPMG

Friday, 3August 2007, Sunway Student Service Department organised a company trip to KPMG, one of the Big Four Accounting Firms. This trip was organised together with Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter (SCSC), an accounting club dedicated in order to promote CPA Australia.

There are 38 students, one lecturer and one SSD staff who were participating in this trip. All registered participants were encouraged to gather at the main foyer of Sunway University College at 12.30 pm., and they were asked to wear office attire. Three registered students could not follow the trip due to medical problems. At 1.15 pm, the group departed from Sunway University College, and arrived at Wisma KPMG at 2.00 pm. The group directly registered themselves in the Boardroom, 12^th floor and waited for the preparation of KPMG presentation. The group had a brief presentation about the KPMG and a sharing experience from KPMG staffs. After the presentation, a coffee break session was held in Bistro, Café Uno, 3^rd floor.

The group left for Sunway University College at 5.30 pm and arrived at 7.00 pm. The group was given an evaluation questionnaire when they were inside the bus.

After distributing the evaluation questionnaire to 38 participants of KPMG Visit, excluding 1 lecturer and 1 SSD staff, there are 32 students giving responses through the questionnaire. Some comments about the usefulness of the KPMG visit, 3^rd August 2007:

“I have learnt that the real life experience of an accounting firm. The people are friendly and willing to help us. It resolved some of my ‘myth’ of working of accounting firm. Official Club Launch

On Thursday May 17, Sunway CPA Student Charter organised an official club launch. The event was attended by around sixty people including member and non member students, VIP guests, and committees. Mr. Rusman Amir Zaihan as deputy president and Ms. Audrey as director of Malaysia division were invited to talk at the launch. Another VIP from CPA such as Mr. Gerald Fernandez and Mr. Peter Wong were also attended the launch. Mrs. Lim Tiew Ming head of AUP office was come to support this event. VU accounting lecturer such as Mr. Foo leader of SCSC, Mr. Teoh, and Ms. Jamuna were also attended the launch. In addition, two persons from Sunway Prepare came to support.

At half past five, the launch was started by CPA video show, continued with speech by Evana president of SCSC and followed by Ms. Audrey talk. Ms. Audrey said that every university which are accredited by CPA Australia going to have student charter. The student charter is support by CPA Australia. Ms. Audrey said that she would support SCSC as well as CPA Australia did support SCSC. She hopes that SCSC will come out with more activities for students. Lastly, Ms. Audrey encouraged students to be the CPA passport student. After that, another video brought by Mr. Peter was being run.

On the top, the launch had Mr. Rusman, who was talked about his self story. After he has graduated from Australia, he did auditing and also did CPA course. Now he is doing strategic business. He told student that accounting is not all about debit and credit. He encouraged students to be accountant and explained on wide field for accountant. Mr. Rusman said that CPA course is important for adding value to accounting degree. In addition, he talked about salaries and answered question from students.

Lastly, Faz vice president of SCSC has prepared video to run at the talk. This video showed about SCSC previous activities such as membership run, Westport trip, and career fair. The purpose of this video is to show that SCCS is an active club, and to encourage people to join SCSC. At the end of the event, refreshment was served and guests were pleased to enjoy it.

Educational Visit to Westport Malaysia Sdn Bhd

On 9th April 2007, Sunway CPA Student Charter (SCSC) organised a field trip to Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd located in Pulau Indah, Port Klang, Malaysia. Port Klang has become a free commercial zone, handling 55 % of the container trade in Malaysia with three gateways of NorthPort, West Port and South Port (http://allmalaysia.info/msiacommerce). 39 Victoria University students together with Mr. Teoh Cheng San, Ms. Jamuna Moorthy and Ms. Lee Phaik , departed from Sunway University College at 9.03 am. Taking 45 minutes on road to Port Klang, the group was warmly welcomed to Westports Sdn Bhd.

In the 16th floor of the Pulau Indah office, Mr.Martin, a representative from Westports Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., gave a brief presentation about company’s profile and the port industry. Westports has proven itself in terms of efficiency and reliability with its cargo handeling capabilities. In its brief 13-years history, Westport has been voted among the top 10 ports in Asia. Its waterfront reliability, distinctive stevedoring capabilities and versatility in handling of cargo, has won it awards from near to far (www.westportsmalaysia.com).

After the 40 minutes presentation, the group was invited to have light refreshment prepared by the company in the 9th floor. At 11.15 am students were taken to the port side where they were able to see the cargo handling and cargo ships up close. At 11:45 the trip was ended and students were transferred back Sunway University College.
