Global Business Forum 16th May 2009

Global Business Forum

This event was organised by Sunway University College and CPA Australia and its purpose was to discuss about the impact of global economic crisis to accounting and financial service sector. It was held in Sunway University College’s Multi Purpose Hall on 16th May 2009, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. SCSC members gathered at Audi 7 about 8 a.m. to start with the preparation such as setting up registration counter. All committee members are required to wear CPA T-shirt provided by CPA Australia

At 9:15 a.m. the forum was started by Dr. Foo, Head of School of Business & Law in Sunway. After that, the first speaker, Mr Chan talked about the impact on changes in investment portfolio by today’s economic world. A lot of charts and grafts were shown to clarify his point of views. He also explained some areas to do investment and risk management models to be used by the banks.

Then, Mr. Andrew Heng identified how global crisis affects in Accounting Profession and he believes the crisis would end in 2010 in Malaysia according to some analyses. Moreover, Mr. Andrew also carried out his opinions to some accounting issues such as the conflict between Fair Value Methods vs Historical Cost Method and Impairment of Assets for current economic status.

Dr. Afrah’s views were more emphasize on human governance rather than corporate governance. She is more concern about ‘Question the fundamental’ and the importance of Accountant’s behaviour that related to society’s welfare.

Students asked questions during Q & A sections and different types of questions were responded by the three speakers.
