Meet the Naked CEO, Alex Malley

         On the 21st of September 2015, which was on Monday, it was a great day for Sunway University College and the students from Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter (SCSC), as they hosted “The Naked CEO”, Mr. Alex Malley which also the CEO of CPA Australia. Mr. Alex was invited to host a talk, “Meet the Naked CEO”. Before the main event, there was another small session with Mr. Alex in the CPA Masterclass. The CPA Masterclass was to begin at 1.30 pm and end at 2.30 pm. This CPA Masterclass was for the CPA student ambassadors to have a more personal session with Mr. Alex himself. The CPA Masterclass event was held at the Function Room 2 of the new university building of Sunway University. CPA student ambassadors from Monash University, INTI University and Taylor’s University were invited to attend. Before the event started, the members had arrived earlier at around 1.15 pm at Function Room 2 to set everything up such as, arranging the chairs in a desired state where the Mr. Alex would be the centre of attention. The networking session began at approximately 1.45 pm. The CPA Masterclass began with everyone introducing themselves, which year were they currently in and their course majors. Mr. Alex then began conversing with the people present in the room, sharing his experiences and what he had learnt from it all. The CPA Masterclass ended at around 2.45 pm.


            Everyone then departed and started making their way to Jeffrey Cheah Hall 1 which is located at the new university building. Before entering the hall, those who were attending the event had to register at the registration counter are manned by the CPA student ambassador. After the registration, the attendees took their seats in the hall. The “Meet the Naked CEO” event garnered a very impressive turnout of students of different courses ranging from ACCA to A-Levels and many more. After everything was prepared, it was time, for the CEO of CPA Australia, The Naked CEO himself, Mr. Alex, accompanied with his associates from Australia to step in the hall. His entrance was welcomed with a huge round of applause. The event started with an opening speech. Mr. Alex was invited to take the stage to start the talk. He shared his experiences, knowledge, and wisdom he had with the crowd. Mr. Alex was impressive and inspiring to the crowd, sometimes giving the crowd a good chuckle with his funny yet amazing experiences. It came a time where his talk would come to an end, where it came time for the Q and A session. Only a few students were given the opportunity to ask Mr. Alex questions due to time constraints. The event ended with a round of applause for Mr. Alex. 



           After the event, there was a book signing and photo session where students had the chance to get their “The Naked CEO” book signed and even get a picture with Mr. Alex. The queue was long with a large number of students wanting to get a picture and book signed. Overall, the entire event was a huge success. It was truly an amazing experience for everyone who attended. The event ended later than expected that is approximately 6.30 pm.

SCSC Bonjour Night (Sem 2, 2015)


          4th August 2015 is a special and significant day for all of the members of SCSC. It is Bonjour Night which is held once a year. This year, we had Bonjour Night in Function Room 4 at Graduate Centre, from 5.00 pm to 9.00 pm. Bonjour Night 2015 was participated by 24 existing members, 21 alumni and 12 new members of SCSC. The purpose of having Bonjour Night is to welcome the new members and alumni of SCSC warmly and enhance the understanding of new members for this club and make them clarify about what CPA is. Also, this activity is to build and strengthen the relationship between current members and the alumni of SCSC.





          The registration of Alumni and guests started from 6.30 pm. The Opening Ceremony started after majority of the alumni have arrived and registered. The opening speech presented by our Club Advisor, Ms. Fong, and AUP Head of Department, Ms. Greeja. Besides greeting all of the attendants with cordial welcome, the speeches progressed in a relaxed and mild ambience. We had a bonding session after the end of the opening ceremony. The participants in this session included new members, current members and alumni of SCSC. All of us made a simple introduction of ourselves by stating our own name and a related adjective that described us the most before the bonding game started. The game presided by the team in-charge. All of the participants have to hold each other hands to form a big circle that is convenient for the game to be conducted. The game was fun, challenging and enjoyable. The room was filled with laughter and mirth during this session.






          After easing and smoothing the atmosphere, it was time to have our dinner. Alumni and current members of SCSC were mixing together without distinguishing the identity. The awkwardness and shyness has been eliminated after the bonding session. All of us were enjoying our delicious meal and chatting with each other friendly. It was undeniable to say that dinner time was filled with delight and great pleasure. The sharing session by alumni started at 9.00 pm. Besides working experiences and useful knowledge, alumni also expressed their feelings toward SCSC. They shared about the good moment that gathered with old friends and the sense of belongingness towards SCSC. This sharing session was interesting and valuable for us.









           Our president then presented the unique and special brooch as a gift to alumni for appreciating their attendances and group photos have been taken after the sharing session. The entire activity ended around 9.30 pm. In a nutshell, Bonjour Night was fun and suitable to become a stage for every SCSC members to build relationship and network with new member and alumni by communicating with each other.

The Finance Game - Deal Or No Deal (Sem 2, 2015)


The Finance Game – “Deal or No Deal” took place on 24 July 2015, Friday, from 1.00 pm to 6.30 pm at Level 8, New University Building, Sunway University, Kuala Lumpur. Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter (SCSC) organized the Finance Game – “Deal or No Deal” and some volunteers of which constitute of talented and passionate students who like to share the knowledge to the others.


There were 30 participants, who joined this event and the participants were formed into 5 participants each team. The Finance Game is a very interesting game which shows a realistic market's transaction world. There were categorizing as many parts, which include "NGO", "Factory", "Bank", "Government", "Job Street", "Market", "Info Center" and “Investment". Every team acts as a company, received different kinds of role such as supplier, manufacturer and retailer. Furthermore, SCSC also provided fabulous prizes to winners to motivate participants.


It is a very interesting game and it has shown that great teamwork plays an important role within the game. It enhances the productivity and process during the game period. Besides, time management and market strategies are important since we should make certain relationship with the supplier and manufacturer in order to get resources. After this event, the participants have learnt a lot of experience about how market transactions work in the real world and know that retailers’ success relies on the relationship with suppliers and manufacturers.



As a conclusion, we hope to organize “Deal or No Deal” again and would like to improve the event. Besides, this was a well - structured event that was very successful with the help of all SCSC members, volunteers and the participants.

Great Eastern Industrial Visit (Sem 1, 2015)

          On the 27th of March, Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter (SCSC) organized an industrial visit for Sunway students to Great Eastern Insurance Company. We departed from Sunway University at 1.20 pm and reached Menara Great Eastern in Jalan Ampang at 2.30 pm. 



          Great Eastern is the top insurance company in Malaysia. It was established in 1908. Great Eastern’s slogan is ‘Life is Great’. To date, Great Eastern has 21 operational branch offices. Their products include life insurance plans, investment-linked plans, mortgage protection, business protection, employee benefits, medical insurance and group health benefit schemes. Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Great Eastern Holdings Limited (GEH) and its ultimate holding company is Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited (OCBC).


          When we arrived at the Menara Great Eastern, they welcomed us and led us to the Auditorium 2 for registration. The seminar then started with Mr. Dennis introducing Great Eastern, followed by the second speaker who briefed us about the history of Great Eastern. The following speaker, 
Mr. Alex showed us the marketing side of Great Eastern. After the introduction session there were question and answer session. Prizes were given for those of us who were able to answer the questions. The Q and A session was very well received.

 




          After the seminar we were led to the cafeteria for tea break. Varieties of food were served specially for us. Our industrial visit ended soon after our tea break. We conveyed our appreciation and bid goodbye to the Great Eastern team for their hospitality and thanked everyone from Great Eastern for making our visit a meaningful one. Finally we left Great Eastern building and made our way home around 5.30 pm.



         All of us agreed and concluded that we have met the objective of the industrial visit. Sunway students now have a more in-depth knowledge as to the working environment in Great Eastern. We believed these invaluable knowledge has enable to more or less visualize the working environment in the corporate world. Overall, the industrial visit to Great Eastern was a great experience and we noted the areas of improvement needed. Once again, we would like to thank Great Eastern for such an exciting and memorable trip. We would also like to thank all 58 participants.
