KPMG Industrial Visit (Sem 1, 2016)

On 1st of April, SCSC had organized an industrial visit to KPMG, which is one of the professional service company that provides Audit, Tax and Advisory services. It is the one of the Big 4 Accounting Firms. KPMG was established in 1928, with approximately over 1,900 employees nationwide.

On that day, our members and fellow participants departed at 1.20 pm from Sunway University and reached KPMG which is located at Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya at around 2 pm. When we arrived at the KPMG, all of us had been welcomed and led to a meeting room by the person in charge. The introduction is then started by people from People, Performance and Culture (PPC) to introduce the history of KPMG and founders. Besides, he had also briefly introduced the head of every department, positions available in the organization and the hiring requirements as well as the job scope for Audit, Taxation and Advisory Departments.

Besides that, they had also invited two speakers who are from Audit and Tax departments to share their experiences and working life in KPMG. One of the speakers from the Audit department gave us a surprise, as she has been one of the members of SCSC member and she’s now the senior manager in one of the Audit department. She told us about the different strategies she used to deal with the different clients. There was also Q&A session where students are allowed to ask more in depth questions related to the working experiences and environment in KPMG.

There was a short break with light refreshment at around 3.30p.m. When having some delicious refreshment, visitors could have personal interactions with employees there. During that time, participants had opportunities to ask employees from PPC department questions about the internship offered and other career related questions. The visit ended at about 4.40pm. Before we went back, SCSC had prepared an appreciation gift for KPMG for their kind hospitality. We reached Sunway University at around 5.45pm.

It was indeed a valuable experience having had the chance to visit KPMG. After this visit, all of us had better understanding about the firm’s working environment and the positions offered. This would certainly benefit us on our future career plans. Lastly, we would like to thank KPMG for giving us a chance to visit them as well as the participants for joining this industrial visit.
