On the 12th
of September 2017, our SCSC representatives went to CPA Congress Talk.
The member who represented SCSC are Loke, Leong, Oscar, Hueixin and Hanna. The
Congress talk was held on a Tuesday at 1.30 pm and it was located at the One
World Hotel in Bandar Utama. The objective of this event was to share
leadership experience of an entrepreneur among the future leaders.
We start off
our journey to One World Hotel, Bandar Utama straight after our class and we
manage to grab a quick lunch along the journey. The journey took about 30
minutes from Sunway University. We were welcomed by the friendly staffs over
there, and met Ms. Prisheeni which is the education relationship manager of CPA
Australia. Before that event started, we went and take a look around all the
booth outside the hall that are from various firms, we noticed that most of
them are accounting firms. We are able source many beneficial information from
the booths over there.
By 2 pm, we
were arranged to sit on the very first row during the talk. It was such a wonderful
opportunity for us! The speaker was YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid bin Omar which is the group chairman of
Permodalan Nasional Berhad.
He was
appointed to be the group chairman on 1st August 2016 following his
completion of his term as a senator and minister in the Prime Minister’s
department in charge of economic planning. Not only that, he was the President
and CEO of Maybank from year 2008 to 2013. Despite that, he is a fellow of the
Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and a member of the Institute
of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales ICAEW) and the Malaysian Institute
of Accountants (MIA).
He shared
some of his work life experience and also his personal experience when he was a
student and how he slowly became successful. It was indeed a speech which motivates
us as well as prepare us for our career in the future. Moreover, his topics are
relatable to the audience which made the talk more engaging. He also showed us
a video which he was starred as a VIP guest on the “Obviously Harith” talk show
from Astro Awani.
After his
talk, all the students and academic staffs had the opportunity to have a
private session which are specially scheduled for the students to clarify their
doubts in the speech and questions related to their future careers. It was a
great opportunity to have a private session with YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid bin Omar.
