CSR Activity

Its Mid-Sem Break and SCSC joined in to help organise a Corporate Social Responsibility event with the VUBC Club at Susheela Old Folks Care Center, Taman Yarl, on the 5th April. The objectives of the camp were to expose the students to understand world outside and lending a helping hand to those who are in need. The event was also served the purpose to instill a leave a positive belief and to build up new confident in the areas of the student’ abilities. Meanwhile, both of the clubs have shown an unforgettable sign of tolerance and team spirit between each other, working side by side and making new allies within each other. A total of 30 participants accompanied by both lecturers, Ms Anita & Ms Racheal, were put into 2 groups and were asked to clean up the houses by beautifying the garden, moving out old boxes and furniture from the stores.

Some of us even mingle around and we even have our talented members to entertaining the old folks as well. Also a special thanks to the lectures who have donated rations to the old folks, without the tremendous support from them the event won’t be a huge success as it seems. 


Most of us had accomplished this task successfully and enjoyed spending our time with the old folks. 

After seeing the smiles glued on the folks, it shows our efforts didn’t actually go to waste!!

Team Building at Sufes Tapah Campsite

On the 1st of April 2013, SCSC held a three days two nights Team Building at Sufes Tapah Campsite. It was the first team building whereby all the activities and games were prepared and conducted our own committee members. They were Kae Shen, the organizing chairperson, Crystal, the advisor, Gui Sheng, Clover, Kevin and Sherying. The purpose of this team building is to bond, interact and have fun with the newly joined members.

We started our journey at 9.45am in front of Sunway Residence. On the way to the destination, the seniors interacted with the new members and played around in the bus.

We stopped by at Bidor for lunch before heading to Tapah. The lunch was booked by Gui Sheng’s father at ‘Coconut Island’ restaurant and the food there was delicious. We arrived at Sufes Tapah Campsite around 2.20pm. The environment there was not only beautiful but also refreshing.

We unloaded all the bags and were briefed by the camper about the rules. Later, we checked-in and changed into sport attire for stream trotting.

The journey to the waterfall was challenging and tiring but the breath-taking scenery of the waterfall made it all worthwhile.

We had our dinner at 6.30pm and had ice-breaking session in the hall at 8pm till 11pm.

Before the session ends, all of them were grouped into 4 teams and each teams had their own theme for the second night's drama session.  

We started the second day with breakfast at 8.30am and then proceed to ‘The Amazing Race’. There are total of 4 teams with 4 people each. The race starts at 10.30am. There are 8 game stations in total: Sudoku, Pop-pop Balloon, Chicken Run, Sweet & Flour, Write with String, Spoon with Ping Pong, Maze & Trap and Balloon Back with 3 Leg. 

During the race, teamwork, leadership and determination can be developed among the members. Furthermore, the relationship between the juniors and the seniors can be bonded here. When it ended at 12pm, everyone was exhausted. After lunch at 1.30pm, most of the team members were busying preparing their props, planning and practising for the drama based on their given theme. Meanwhile, the committee members were busy preparing for the ‘Balloon War’ tournament. Filling up the balloons with water and putting into the pail, setting up the border line and also arranging the barriers for defence on both side of the field. The tournament started at 3pm and ended at 4.30pm.

Everyone was wet and tired but it was worth it. Everyone then clean themselves and rested awhile in the room. Some of the members went to the canteen to help with the grilling of chickens and sausages for dinner. After having dinner from 6.30pm till 8pm, everyone proceed to put on their costume and props for the drama as it starts at 8pm.

Creativity, imagination and teamwork were the main criteria to win the drama. All the performances were hilarious and creative. Drama ended at 10pm for supper and everyone went to bed at 12.00am.

Last day of team building, breakfast was at 9.30am. Everyone was busy packing and cleaning up the room. We had a short photo session before leaving to keep memories intact with us.

At 11.00am was the announcement of the highest scorer team in total of all the games and the prize giving session.

There was also a prize for the best male and female camper. After lunch at 12.00pm, everyone gathered in the hall while waiting for the bus. We departed at 1.30pm from Sufes Tapah Campsite and arrived at Sunway University College at 3.30pm.

CPA Australia Passport Membership Briefing

Another successful CPA Australia Passport Membership Briefing was held in Audi 7 at Sunway University on 27th February 2013, from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm. Members gathered in front of Audi 7 15 minutes before the event to set up the bunting of CPA Australia and socialize with participants. On top of that, Yee Kae Shen also took up the challenge to be the emcee of that day.

Our guest speaker for the talk, Ms. Leong Pui Kuan is the CPA Australia Relationships Manager in Malaysia. Not only that she has been supporting us for a long time, we are also working closely with her. There were approximately 25 participants which comprises of undergraduates from Victoria University and ACCA. 


During the talk, Miss Kuan explained the objectives and roles of CPA Australia and the steps needed to be taken to become a CPA passport member. From the information given by Miss Kuan, there will be exemption for Victoria University’s accounting students. However, it depends on the subjects the students are undertaking. Information regarding CPA programme and CPA passport membership was clearly explained during the briefing which enhances their interest in CPA professional qualifications. Besides that, she also introduced some of the successful CPA member around the world like Melisssa Claassen, who is currently the CFO of Adidas Group for Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The talk ended with a sharing session with some SCSC members sharing their experience in the club. This is to promote the club and attract new members. The members who were representing our club were Crsytal, Michael and Jef. Generally, some of their priceless experience during their university life were from their participation in SCSC. Praises from them truly boosted the confidence of the members.

The event ended on time. Members managed to recruit 12 new members for CPA passport membership by giving out application forms to fill. Participants are welcomed to clarify their doubts by consulting Miss Kuan after the talk due to the time constraints during Q&A session. 


As SCSC members, we continued our tradition with a photo session in Audi 7 with Miss Kuan to celebrate the success of this event. It will be kept as a part of our memory with SCSC.

Industrial Visit To Bursa Malaysia


On 8th of March 2013, Sunway CPA Australia Student Charter (SCSC) organized an industrial visit to Bursa Malaysia. This trip was catered only to VU students of which the participants totaled up to 88 people.  Much preparation was done prior the event date by the members of SCSC Club to ensure the smoothness of the trip. On the day itself, participants came joyfully, prepared to enjoy and learn from this valuable experience. Most students were on time. The departure time was at 1.30 pm and the arrival time was around 2pm.




Upon arrival, the staffs of Bursa Malaysia, welcomed us with open hands and led us to the discussion room for a briefing session. Miss Claire enlightened the participants with information in relation to the securities exchange and the investing market environment. After presenting the basket of fruits as token of appreciation to Miss Claire, a Q&A session was opened up to the participants and was well utilized.

After the briefing, Bursa Malaysia provided light refreshments for the participants such as sandwiches, coffee and tea.



The participants were then brought to a room where part of the history of Bursa Malaysia is explained with visual aid. A big screen showing the flow of share price is situation in the middle of the room.




This is followed by a tour to the library of Bursa Malaysia. Participants were presented with a variety of financial books and magazines which was quite interesting especially to those majoring in banking & finance.



Last but not least, we were directed to the outside part of Bursa Malaysia building and were showed the sculpture of buffalo and bear, learning the hidden meaning of it. With that, we ended our visit to Bursa Malaysia.




As a whole, the objective of this trip was to provide VU students with the opportunity to gain insight knowledge of Bursa Malaysia, at the same time promoting and raising awareness about SCSC Club. Feedbacks from majority participants were positive and satisfying and will be use as reference to improve on our next industrial visit. To Bursa Malaysia, SCSC Club would like to present our utmost gratitude for this valuable opportunity and we hope that we will have opportunity to cooperate again in the future.

Capital Gains Game

On  3rd October 2012, an event known as the ‘Capital Gains Game’ organized by True North Asia was held from 8.30am to 2pm at UCSI University. There are a total of 79 candidates from Sunway who have registered for this event. Overall it was a very satisfactory result although there was a greater potential for us to achieve a greater amount of candidates registering for this event.

On the event day itself, every candidates assembled at the foyer by 8am as there will 2 bus providing all of the candidates transportation from Sunway Campus for UCSI University. Every SCSC member who participated in this event are in charge of taking down the attendance when the candidates board the bus to avoid missing members. After a 40 minutes journey, the bus have finally reached UCSI University. All of the candidates were then asked to have a seat in UCSI’s main hall which was located in the South Wing.

The event began with a quick warm up session conducted by Jonathan Quek, the founder of True North Asia. After that at 9.30am, there was a short speech which was conducted by the representative from AKPK. The speech lasted for about half an hour. Before the game began, Mr. Jonathan Quek brief and taught us how to play this game as most of us have no knowledge about this game.





At 10am sharp, the game began as every participant was looking very anxious because they all want to win as there is a total of RM1,500 cash prize to be won. It was a very intense moment as cheers of joys and sigh of disappointment can be heard from all over the hall. Halfway through the game, there are already participants who have successfully achieved financial freedom when the rest of the participants are still struggling to pick the right investment technique just to avoid facing bankruptcy. A good thing is, one of the students representing Sunway has got 3rd place as he managed to achieve financial freedom before any other participants did. This was a very proud moment for Sunway as we all know that Sunway students are very intelligent people.




















After the game has ended, Mr Jonathan Quek has explain to all of the participants about the method of investing and some tips for investment. Besides that, a very motivational talk was also conducted by the Wall Street Academy representative. As the event draws nearer to the end, there was a lucky draw session which gives away silver coins to lucky participants. After that, a prize giving session was held and a promotional and appreciation video was shown to every participant. At 1.25pm, there was a photo-taking session for all the winners, participants, and organizing committee.


                                                                  







By 2pm, the whole event has ended. Every Sunway student are required to assemble and board the bus so that all of them can be transported back to Sunway. At 3.30pm, all of us have successfully reached Sunway safely. Overall it was a very successful event as it helps to widen our knowledge in terms of investing and also we are able to make more new friends. There are participants who have mentioned that they wished that there would be another similar competition like this so that they could participate again.

CPA Australia Passport Membership Briefing


The CPA Australia Passport membership briefing was held in the Lecture Theatre 1 at Sunway University on the 14th of September 2012 from 3.30pm till 4.30pm. The guest speaker for the talk was Ms. Leong Pui Kuan who is also the CPA Australia Relationships Manager in Malaysia. Our MC of this CPA talk is Crystal.



Before the event started, all committee members from SCSC were asked to gather in the meeting room in the Infotainment centre to be brief on the objectives and roles of SCSC as well as that of CPA. We are also given the job scope which we are supposed to do before, during and after the talk. For the new committee members of SCSC, we were also given the CPA Australia T-shirt.

There are approximately 25 participants who had attended the talk which comprises of mainly Victoria University undergraduate degree students. The briefing was a success as it provides the participants information about the CPA programme and further enhances their interest in the programme to give them a choice between other such similar accounting professional qualifications such as ACCA and ICAEW.



During the meeting, the speaker explain about the objectives and roles of CPA Australia as well as the recognition one would be able to get from choosing CPA Australia. Examples of successful CPA Australia holders are such as Melissa Claassen, who is currently the CFO of Adidas Group for Hong Kong and Taiwan. Furthermore, the speaker also mentioned about the routes and exemptions a potential student may opt to take when they decide to join CPA Australia.


Besides that, three committee members which are Aatiq, Yit Han and Shumina also shared their experience and what they have learned from SCSC. Basically, they said that they enjoy and happy that they join SCSC and they will never regret to join SCSC.






The event ended at 4.30 pm. SCSC members collected the CPA Australia membership registration form from interested students. After the session ended, there are some students who approached Ms. Leong Pui Kuan for more information regarding CPA and the routes they are able and can take.

Paintball Game


In order to come up with new environment for SCSC activities other than educational talks, we decided to have paintball game activity. This activity was joined by some of the committee member and some outsider in order to get enough people to play the game. If member interested, they have to pay RM 45 to our treasurer, Mona. We took two cars to reach the Sri Petaling , both of the cars belong to our members Teo Kok Peng and Kae Shen .Upon arrival the instructors told us how to play the game, and the basic do’s and don’ts that we  have to follow to the play the game safely and properly, since we had the special package we got to have additional bullets therefore we got to play three games. The first of two games teams were suppose to get flags after shooting down three bottles in the enemy territory and then the third games saw the same but in addition we had to get an additional flag from the enemy fort. After the games we all went to eat and having a quality time with fellowship and getting to know one another among the new friends. The environment is filled with joy and laughter. Following that, when everyone finished their food, then had drinks from cha-time. Overall it was another successful member’s activity for the SCSC family
